Star Wars Outlaws: Ubisoft Under Fire Again as Jabba the Hutt Mission Locked Behind Season Pass

Ubisoft is once again under fire from fans as Star Wars Outlaws' Jabba the Hutt mission is locked behind the game's Season Pass.

The company has previously received criticism for the announcement of the Season Pass itself but the latest news prompted a fresh wave of frustration. Ubisoft's website outlines the contents of the paid content and it was revealed that access to Jabba's Gambit mission at launch will be included.

The Season Pass explainer reads, "Play the exclusive Jabba's Gambit mission at launch. Just as Kay is putting together a crew for the Canto Bight heist, she receives a job from Jabba the Hutt himself. Turns out that ND-5 owes Jabba a debt from years ago, and he has come to collect."

On top of this, it is currently unclear just how much of the Jabba the Hutt content will be locked behind Star Wars Outlaws' Season Pass. However, Ubisoft previously said that players can work for and even betray Jabba as the head of one of the game's criminal factions, according to IGN.

One online user, Zephy, said that this is exactly the reason why the community should avoid defending these types of early-access editions. Another user, Temascos, said that they would understand missions and other content getting added after release either for free or paid.

However, they called it a jerk move to lock stuff that is otherwise going to be there on the first day of release behind an extra paywall. The controversy comes as Star Wars Outlaws was first announced in 2023 as a scoundrel adventure.

The game is set between the events of Star Wars: Episode 5 - The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Episode 6 - Return of the Jedi. The protagonist is named Key Vess, who has a droid partner named ND-5 and her beastly companion called Nix.

Locked Behind the Season Pass

A representative for Ubisoft later clarified that despite the Jabba the Hutt mission being locked behind the Season Pass, the character himself and the Hutt Cartel will be one of the main syndicates in the game.

This means that they will be part of the experience for everyone who buys the base game, said PCGamer.

They added that the mission will be completely optional and will be accessible as Kay and Nix continue their journey across the Outer Rim. Despite this, many players were still disappointed at the paywall for a mission involving one of the most iconic characters in the franchise.

Fans have long anticipated Star Wars Outlaws and rejoiced when it was finally revealed and announced. The game's associate art director Marthe Jonkers said that the protagonist has a lot of elements in her design that tell a bit of her overall story.

One of these features is that she has a broken nose and that her body is filled with scars and the like that she got from the things that she went through. A small detail about the character is that she has a hairpin that she uses to lockpick doors to open them, according to GameInformer.
