Funko Fusion Brings Collectibles Into the World of Video Games With September Release

Funko Fusion is an ambitious first title for developer 10:10 Games that lets players bring their adorable Funko Pop collectibles into the world of video games.

The upcoming title is slated for a September 2024 release schedule and will feature a mashup of various franchises, including Jurassic World and Back to the Future. The upcoming title is a third-person action-adventure game that will feature battles, puzzles, and other familiar faces.

Some of Funko Fusion's levels were inspired by iconic movies and television shows, such as the classics Jaws and Masters of the Universe to recent hits like Umbrella Academy and Invincible. The main thing about the game is that how fun it is would most likely depend on what properties it has access to.

The good news is that the developer has partnered with NBCUniversal to include some truly inspired picks among its more than 20 licenses. Other franchises include Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, The Thing, M3GAN, Hot Fuzz, Nope, and Shaun of the Dead, according to ComingSoon.

While some of these titles would most likely not make a great stand-alone game, they do show some promise if they are handled well to provide great levels and show off iconic characters. In early footage that showed The Thing and Shaun of the Dead, both levels featured intense action gameplay.

In particular, The Thing focused on third-person shooter combat and also mixed in some puzzle-solving mechanics. While other properties included in Funko Fusion, such as Child's Play 2, are rated R, the game in general is aiming for a Teen rating.

This would allow it to have plenty of cartoon-level violence and would let the team remain faithful to the properties while also taking advantage of the uniform Funko art style. The upcoming game showed off some promising visuals and the gameplay seemed to be polished and fun to play.

The developer described Funko Fusion as an "action-adventure, single player and online co-op experience that pays tribute to NBCUniversal's deep roster of beloved worlds and the irreverent Funko Pop!," said Variety.

A Variety of Classic Franchises

Players will be able to celebrate their favorite movies and TV series across a wide range of more than 20 franchises. On Tuesday, the first trailer for Funko Fusion was released, which featured Pop-ified versions of characters from across NBCU brands, such as Five Nights at Freddy's and Xena: Warrior Princess.

When it launches, Funko Fusion will be available to players across a variety of platforms, including PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. The vice president of licensing and business development at Funko said that the game is their first, explosive entry into console video gaming.

One of the main differences that Funko Fusion has from Lego games is that it features a four-player online co-op but no local co-op support.

During a remote demonstration of the game last week, former Traveller's Tales head of design Arthur Parsons spoke about the decision. He said that it was made because they believe that online co-op is where their player base is, according to PCGamer.
