Abiotic Factor Early Access Brings Half Life Survival Gameplay to Players' Doorsteps

Abiotic Factor has come out in early access and brings Half-Life survival gameplay to players' doorsteps as a one-to-six-player first-person title.

The developer, Deep Field Games, and the publisher, Playstack, created the game that features a bunch of stranded boffins. They must find a way to escape a massive underground lab while dealing with interdimensional horrors.

The area features multiple-storey cryptids and skinless wolves and there are also invading squads of Combiney soldiers. Fortunately, players will have access to a plethora of deadly gadgets, base construction, subterranean farming, and battlefield medicine.

The Steam blog for the game revealed that Abiotic Factor's early access release would include three biomes or sectors; the offices, the labs, and the manufacturing sector as well as "6+ portal worlds."

Players will be able to travel around the facility by means of a tram system, which is memorable to fans of Half-Life. No doubt streamers will try to recreate the Valve shooter's iconic intro sequence, according to Rock Paper Shotgun.

Abiotic Factor will get a Crush Depth update in the summer that will introduce the security and hydro plant sectors. It will also add a "full laser system," jetpacks, teleporters, and the autosalvager.

Players can also expect a Dark Energy update to come out in autumn that would add the reactor sector, hardlight technology, "the gatekeepers," and various things or locations. The developers of the game are planning to release the full version this winter which would include a "chilling final chapter."

However, Deep Field Games cautioned players that everything so far is still subject to change and that there will be small and medium-sized updates in between the major roadmap updates. For now, Abiotic Factor is on sale on Steam at a 20% discount.

The premise of the game seems to be striking a chord with fans of the co-op survival crafting genre. Abiotic Factor also commits to its '90s parody corporate scientist theme by featuring 19 ties, 12 kinds of glasses, and 11 belts in its character creator, said PCGamer.

A Half-Life-Inspired Co-op Survival Shooter

For players who have gotten so used to starting out their resource-gathering adventure by punching a tree should not expect the same with Abiotic Factor. The early access game will instead let you express your frustrations by beating a computer to get its power supply.

However, the game feels similar to other survival titles because players will have to collect resources and craft increasingly complex structures. What makes it different is that you start out as a relatively well-educated scientist who crafts modern items such as test tubes.

While Abiotic Factor's premise seems like a serious proposition, the game quickly experiences a series of chaotic and bizarre happenings. These include scientists going missing in other dimensions or suddenly popping out of vents while trying to escape aliens.

The game was previously available through a demo that became so popular that the developer had to extend the time that it was playable. The game's Steam sale will be available until May 9, 2024, for players who are looking to get it, according to PCGamesN.
