Game of Thrones Video Game by Telltale Will Have an Original Plot Concurrent With TV Show Timeline

The next Game of Thrones video game being developed has high expectations due to the identity of its developer, Telltalle Games, as well as the lackluster first attempt at a game tie-in to the hit series. Telltale took the very popular The Walking Dead television property and turned it into a fantastic dialogue-centric, point-and-click adventure game, winning many plaudits and awards for its surprisingly impactful effort.

We've learned that the plot of the Game of Thrones tie-in game will be an original one that doesn't follow the same characters or events as the HBO show or book series source material. It will take place in Westeros at the same time as the main storyline, but will follow its own new path, exactly like The Walking Dead.

"It's not a prequel," Telltale CEO Dan Connors told Digital Trends in an interview. "I think the show provides a timeline, but the world is huge," he added. "There's so much going on and it's so rich. Every decision that King Joffrey makes impacts so many people. Any microcosm in that world [looking at how] people are affected by the decisions that are made plays out across the whole thing."

The world in Game of Thrones is indeed pretty complex and rich with many varied locations, so there is plenty of depth for Telltale to explore, which is pretty exciting. Maybe we'll even see multiple character view points as seen in the books and show, rather than just playing as one individual like in The Walking Dead.

"The show does a great job of interpreting George R.R. Martin's work, and his work provides a huge dictionary of knowledge about what the franchise is," Connors explained. "It's really a dream to sit down and say, 'What's our space in this world? Where are we in this world?' And the world offers you so much to explore," he finished.
