HTC One M8 is Blah, Blah, Blah, Says Gary Oldman in New Ad [VIDEO]

HTC One is Blah, Blah, Blah, Says Gary Oldman in New Ad

HTC is taking a bit of a different tact with this advertisement for its new flagship phone, the HTC One M8. They've employed the famed services of actor Gary Oldman to hype their device, although he insists it doesn't matter what he says--the HTC One M8 is for people who form their own opinions.

Oldman "blahs" his way through the opening portion of the ad, replacing plugs for the phone with meaningless blasé babble, taking the usual hyped-up ads in the complete opposite direction (though still no doubt paying a lot of money to a famous actor to do so).

"It doesn't matter what I say," says Goldman after his blahs. "Because the all new HTC One is designed for people who form their own opinions. So go ahead, ask the internet."

It's a funny ad, but there's something a bit contradictory about that: they say that the phone speaks for itself and 'smart' customers will make up their own mind (which is becoming an old message, I think), but tell you to ask the internet, presumably referring to the positive reception and high review scores the phone has gotten.

"Blah, blah, blah, blah..." Oldman continues as the ad fades out, showing off the new device. It's nearly too arrogant, but I think it restrains itself enough to get the point across. Their device is very good and well-received, and it doesn't really matter what Oldman says about it as long as it's put in front of you.

HTC seems to have had enough of going for grandiose advertisements and decided not to try so hard, which could resonate with consumers. The HTC One is a great phone, but couldn't match the sales of its competitors. Perhaps the One M8 will see more success financially, and this ad can't have hurt their chances.
