Playstation Plus April 2014 Update- Free Batman Arkham City, Mercenary Kings for PS4, Castle of Illusion, More [VIDEO]

Another Month, Another Slew of Free Awesome Games for PS Plus Subscribers

Here we go again! Sony has just revealed the list of free games that will be added to their Instant Game Collection in April 2014 via the Playsation Plus service. If you're not a member you're basically throwing money away at this point- every week there's at least one new free game added, a title that you can keep for as long as you remain subscribed. Every month there's one PS4 title featured, and this one is the indie hit Mercenary Kings. PS3 gamers will get Batman: Arkham City, Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse, and they haven't forgotten about Vita owners either, with free Pixeljunk Monsters!

Check out the full list-

PS4

Mercenary Kings - I can vouch for this one! It's a blast of a game on PC right now and will be a surefire hit for the PS4, a game that looks and feels a bit like Metal Slug , a beautiful 2D shooter with a vast world to explore. It offers a massive amount of missions, upgrades, and really fun multiplayer mode. Old-school shooter fans will absolutely love this one. PS3

Batman: Arkham City - You might have heard about this game. It didn't exactly hold up to the genius of Batman: Arkham Asylum and did the old sequel mistake of adding too many baddies and not enough direction but still, flying around an open world as Batman never felt better. This is perfect timing for this game- as we get more and more amped up for Batman: Arkham Knight it's good to go back to the last game that Rocksteady developed and think about what they're going to get up to next.

Stealth Inc. A Clone in the Dark - It's easy to still miss the original title of this game- Stealth Bastard Deluxe: Tactical Espionage Arsehole, but you know it would have been a (much) harder sell. The name change apparently did them good- they've released it for a ton of platforms, culimanating in this, the definitive release. Imagine it as a mix of Metal Gear Solid and Super Meat Boy and you'll understand why it's gotten so much attention. 80 levels await you and PS Vita gamers- this is a cross-buy title so you will get both versions to play with!

Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse - This is an HD remake of the Sega Genesis classic, definitely one of the best licensed games of the time. Don't put it off just because it's Mickey- it's a wonderful platformer, even though some people seem to prefer the original version.

PS Vita

Velocity Ultra - This is a shoot'em up that lets you play as a spaceship that's trying to rescue stranded ships, defending yourself by flinging bombs at enemies. This Ultra edition is the high-def remake of the Playstation Mini hit that features a completely new art style, trophy support, leaderboards, and improved touch controls.

Pixeljunk Monsters Ultimate HD - This is the best version of the classic tower-defense game, and easily one of the best Pixeljunk games of all. Unlike most of those games you have to physically move around and place weapon towers at strategic points to repel invading monsters that are trying to steal your gems. Ultimate HD includes everything from the Encore expansion pack, and more.

And that's it for April! It's not quite as starstudded a month as the last few, but it's a really nice collection of games that more than justifies the $50 a year subscription to the service.

Now it's once again time for Microsoft to show off what they have up their sleeves with their Xbox Live Games for Gold program- could they do better this month?
