Pokémon X and Y News: Pokémon Giveaway Kicks Off in April

Pokémon Magmar, Electabuzz, and XY Expansion Give Away Part of Pokémon Easter Promotion

When you stop and think about it, Easter and Pokémon are an odd combination, but then again, so is choosing an egg laying rabbit to represent a holiday about a biblical resurrection. In keeping with such an odd theme, the Pokémon Company has announced a special offer for the holiday, where gamers can receive one of two Pokémon to help "catch 'em all."

As of April 4, players can head to any GAME UK and get a redeemable code for a specific first generation pokémon - Pokémon X players get the flaming Magmar, while Pokémon Y players get a jolt with Electabuzz.

According to a press release, "the redeemable codes for the characters will be printed on cash receipts upon request, and no purchase is necessary."

"Fans will appreciate the special bonus items that come with this distribution: Electabuzz is holding an Electirizer, and Magmar is holding a Magmarizer. When traded holding these items, Electabuzz will evolve into Electivire, and Magmar will evolve into Magmortar."

Apart from that, free X and Y sample packs for the Pokémon Trading Card Game's X and Y expansion will also be available at stores, "while stocks last." Expect to start seeing television spots to advertise the promotion at the same time.

Pokémon X and Y released in October to rave reviews as well as great sales numbers. As a matter of fact, Game Freak Director Junichi Masuda's recently revealed that since launch, over ten million of the little monsters have been exchanged since the game launched. It's also reported by Nintendo Life that Masuda expressed interest in making more Mega Evolutions.

The games represent a radical change for the franchise, the top down perspective having been replaced with more of a three quarter perspective, and battles look radically different. As per usual, players will see several new pokémon, 5 of which were teased in the game's trailer at the time of the announcement. There's the usual array of new starter Pokémon, and each game will play host its own type of new, legendary Pokémon. And what's more, a number of classic Pokémon have earned mega-evolutions they can transform into during battle.

No DLC is planned for the games.
