Pro Evo Manager Announced for iOS and Android, Clearly Inspired by FIFA's Ultimate Team Mode

FIFA is king of the football simulation realm, but that has never stopped Pro Evolution from challenging them on all fronts. Konami is expanding the battleground further by announcing PES Manager, a free title for iOS and Android devices.

The game will not be the same fully featured PES that appears on consoles, instead offering a take on FIFA's extremely popular and successful Ultimate Team card and player collecting mode. Konami bills it as a game where you can gather your favorite players and "create your very own original team".

You can also train players to improve their attributes, and the game does include a 3D engine (in which you can presumably control the matches yourself), as well as various competitions. Konami says that PES Manager is "coming soon".

Konami does not have the rights to most team names and logos, creating look-alike approximations of the clubs (especially in the Premier League), but PES is able to use player names. The official site states that the title will boast 1,500 players initially, which implies they may be adding more in the future. Only leagues and teams from Europe are represented in the game.

The PES series has its fans (especially in certain foreign markets, published in its native Japan as World Soccer Winning Eleven), and some purchase both it and FIFA each year. It has long played second fiddle to EA's franchise, though, which flaunts its massive licenses for most major leagues in world football and benefits from EA's marketing power. Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is the current face of the franchise, while FC Barcelona's Lionel Messi represents FIFA.
