Star Citizen Combat, Space Walking and Stealth Maneuvers Shown off in Extended Footage

I don't think you'll find many people who will disagree that crowd-funding smash hit Star Citizen looks like a genuinely awesome game. Some of the features that have led to more than $42 million in public funding include super realistic graphics, open space flight, multiplayer, and ship customization--who doesn't want that?

Extended footage of what we saw at PAX has emerged, and it shows off some gameplay features that weren't shown in the original broadcast. The video is almost 40 minutes long--a lot of gameplay goodness for fans who want to see more of the game, especially those who donated to the project.

Much of the video focuses on creator Chris Roberts discussing the game and its features, but there is plenty of gameplay footage as well (particularly towards the end segment). Watching the game in motion is quite enjoyable, partially just because it looks so good. The lighting and shadow effects during space flight create some gorgeous scenes, especially when there's a wonderfully rendered planet below.

The developers give you a glimpse of PvP space combat, as well as free-flight. Another cool feature present in the video that we haven't seen much of so far is space walking. You can leave your ship while in space and float around the environment in zero gravity. I'm not sure what this allows you to do in terms of gameplay (perhaps make repairs to your ship?), but it sure looks neat.

Star Citizen ran a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2012, garnering $2.1 million with a $500,000 goal amount. A separate funding drive continues to operate on RSI's website, which is where the now $42 million-plus funding was reached. Star Citizen has no set release date, and will roll out several modules over the next couple of years.
