'GRID Autosport' Release Date Announced By Codemasters; First Trailer Released [VIDEO]

'GRID Autosport' Is Bringing Back First Person Racing and Coming Out In a Few Short Months

We told you about the new GRID game announcement the other day, and now here it is. GRID Autosport was revealed by Codemasters today, and it's coming to Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on June 24 in the US and June 27 in Europe.

IGN has the scoop on the new features in Autosport:

"The third entry in the GRID series accommodates five very different styles of racing: touring, endurance, open-wheel, tuner competitions and street racing. Each mode features unique features and the entire game contains over 100 routes across 22 locations dotted around the world."

Sounds like quite a few new courses in this one. Codemasters also listened to the fans, bringing the return of the first-person in-car view, which aligned with previous rumors. Codemasters' RaceNet system will now allow players to form online clubs for the first time.

IGN also spoke to GRID Autosport's lead designer.

"When asked what sets GRID Autosport apart from other racing games around, the game's lead designer James Nicholls emphasised GRID's commitment to the sport above all else. 'The thing we get very right is racing. That's our thing,' says Nicholls. 'That's what we do differently. There are a lot of games out there that are driving games or driving simulators but there always focused on what the car's about, the detail, or the track, that's the focus primarily and everything else is secondary to it."

"'What we try to create is that feeling of what it's like to be a racing driver, that gameplay experience. We're a game first, not a simulator. That changes the emphasis for everything.'"

It sounds like Codemasters has quite a few plans for this new installment. Keep it tuned here and we'll give you any updates as they come up en route to the June 24/27 release date. In the meantime, check out the announcement trailer below.
