Soulcalibur: Lost Swords Out Today Exclusively on PlayStation 3

SoulCalibur: Lost Swords Hits PS3 Exclusively Later Today

If you've been enjoying Tekken Revolution, today's your day, because developer Namco Bandai has given the free-to-play treatment to yet another of its signature fighters, Soulcalibur. According to a post on the PlayStation Blog, latest game in the series goes up for grabs on the PlayStation 3 later today with Soulclaibur: Lost Swords.

The only catch is that the game follows something of a different formula than just a straightforward fighter like Revolution, in that it's a completely individual experience. As Namco Bandai's Community Manager J. Kartje wrote, "the game is single-player only and revolves around players making their way through a series of quests to gain items. These items can be accessories such as clothing options or new weapons to give your character extra flair or increased stats. These upgraded items will be essential as you tackle later quests."

The only social interaction that the game has comes by sharing your customized character online, which other players can download and use in battles as an ally. Save for that, Kartje promises Lost Swords will be the same Soulcalibur that players have enjoyed, with the "fast and fluid, weapon-based combat, the beautiful graphics, the customization options," the whole enchilada.

The roster is also a bit smaller, but much like Revolution, more characters will be added in over time. When the game drops later today, the selectable characters number nine in all, with Princess Hldegard Von Krone, Nightmare, Pyrrha, Astaroth, Siegfried, Ivy, Sophita, Taki, and Heishiro.

Characters hinted for at possible future additions include Inferno, Casandra, Patroklos, Zasalamel, Voldo, Aeon, Raphiel, Seong Mo-Na, Raphael, Z.W.E.I., and Tekken's Heihachi Mishima among others.

Players who download the game within its first four weeks of availability get a set of bonus items as a special thanks. Check back later, and we'll have a review for you after the PlayStation Store is updated and the game becomes available.
