Injustice: Gods Among Us has been out for over a year now and boasts two billion play sessions, but you assume that a year after release a game is more or less done, right? Not so. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment just sent along word of their new 2.0 update that will majorly update the game. The biggest feature by far is an all-new multiplayer mode that was developed from the ground up by NetherRealm Studios. Now you can battle with other players' teams to get currency, experience and Gear Cards. Another feature of this update is brand new Gold Characters, a Match Replay feature that lets you relive online battles, increased promotion and level caps, new missions and character booster packs.
Now the multiplayer doesn't really allow you play against players online, as you might have expected. Instead you can customize teams that will fight for you in your absense. Battles are waged by engaging other users' online teams, which are represented by an AI driven squad, with every match awarding Multiplayer Points to the victor. There will be a Weekly Leaderboard that gives rewards to players based on their ranking. If you're curious how a battle went down you can check it out via Match Replay, which will give you an idea of how to customize your team to improve them.
When you're signed into the game you're on Offense mode and whenever you're offline you're on Defense. The game will auto-match you against a Defense team, which allows you to make sure you aren't attacked while trying to form up your teams.
The new Gear cards can be picked up by playing online or by purchasing them using in-game currency. You can equip three different cards on a character to give them all sorts of modifiers, which will give you a lot of new ways to strategize and pick your characters. Gear cards are apparently pretty hard to come by in online matches, though- I haven't seen one yet.
New characters include Animated Harley Quinn, Batman Returns Catwoman, Arrow Green Arrow, New 52 Nightwing, Green Lantern Sinestro, Krypto Lex Luthor, and Shazam. They're all available in the store to purchase right now.
One thing's for sure- fans of the game are going to love how improved they've made things. The 2.0 update for Injustice is available for the iOS only right now- the Android update will hit in May.
