HBO Sends George R.R. Martin's Assistant to Serve as Story Consultant on Telltale's 'Game of Thrones' Title

Telltale Games made a splash with its fantastic adaptation of The Walking Dead as well as the similarly well-received The Wolf Among Us. The studio recently revealed it's also working on an adaptation of the outrageously popular Game of Thrones, and The New York Times is reporting that Telltale will be getting the help of George R.R. Martin's personal assistant at HBO, Ty Corey Franck.

Franck will serve as the story consultant on Telltale's Game of Thrones endeavor, sent by HBO to assist on the project. He is also an author in his own right, co-authoring Star Wars novels Honor Among Thieves and Leviathan Wakes.

HBO was impressed by Telltale's production values and efforts towards narratively sound games, speaking very positively about the studio after a short initial presentation of what a Game of Thrones title would entail.

"We were struck by the sophisticated level of work and high-quality approach to storytelling in all of their games," Josh Goodstadt, the vice president for global licensing at HBO, told the Times. "We quickly recognized that this same level of quality and dedication could be a great complement to the richness of Game of Thrones."

Taking the title seriously enough to commit the time of Martin's assistant to the project (which is still in very early stages) is a great sign, and good gesture by HBO. Given the property's critical and commercial success, they naturally take anything associated with the brand very seriously. The decision to partner with Telltale was a considered one, and assigning Franck is a move that helps ensure quality control.
