'Bioshock Infinite' City in the Sky Columbia Recreated in 'Minecraft'

Bioshock Infinite City in the Sky Columbia Recreated in Minecraft

There have been many great original creations in Minecraft over the years, but the most amusing projects for me are recreations of other fictional settings within the world-builder indie game. Painstaking productions of locales from universes such as Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones have appeared online since Minecraft's, as well as remakes of other video game worlds.

Minecraft player TheVoxelBox has recreated Bioshock Infinite's Columbia in Minecraft, transforming the beautiful sprawling city in the sky into a voxel-based remake. There are a couple of details missing, but for the most part Columbia has been faithfully recreated, and it's very well done. The project was posted on Reddit by user Assencent, and the full gallery can be found on Imgur.

Perhaps it's because anything floating in the sky is automatically more awesome, but the hanging boxes and blocky blimps look great. The giant propellers are particularly cool too, and the creator went all out in an attempt to preserve the sense of scale and size. The sky rails are amusingly just hanging lines of blocks, not a sleek method of transportation.

This would be neat even if it were not a recreation of something else, because the screens make for pretty pleasant images. I imagine a lot of work went into this, and TheVoxelBox included a description of his work on the download page:

"Columbia floats above the North Msk continent and is comprised of neoclassical buildings built in the earlier days of Holocene. While reactors, propellers and balloons are present throughout the city, its ability to float is due to quantum levitation which allows objects to be suspended indefinitely. Explore the "New Eden" and travel around Minecraft in style."
