New 'Call of Duty' To Be Announced On Sunday, May 4; Game Will Feature Future Private Military, Not WWI [VIDEO]

The New Call of Duty is Being Announced On Sunday, Here's What We Know So Far

Soldiers, get ready. The new Call of Duty will be announced this coming Sunday, May 4, at 10 a.m. Eastern time.

It looks like Game Informer is going to have the scoop on the game on Sunday, at the same time as the game will be revealed on Call of Duty's website. According to GI, there will be an announcement trailer dropped by Sledgehammer Games on Sunday as well.

GI has an exclusive first image posted on its site and, well, it certainly doesn't seem like WWI will be the setting. That is, unless this game is the Darkest of Days sequel that I've been waiting on for the last five years. Something tells me that's not the case.

Actually, it appears as if Call of Duty will be moving towards the private sector in this game, or perhaps fighting it. But in the future, because the gear that the guy in the GI image is wearing looks nothing like anything in 2014.

In a new video from the Call of Duty YouTube page titled "Superpower For Hire," a four-minute mini documentary details the rise of private militaries filled with highly-trained super soldiers and the possibility that, for the right price, they could serve another master against the US. There are also some hidden links in the scrambled image on the site that lead to stories on private military contractors.

So who will you be fighting in this Call of Duty? We'll know for sure on Sunday, but the franchise needs to change something up. Sledgehammer might be the studio to do it, after their 26.5 million units sold was the highest ever for a CoD game with 2011's Modern Warfare 3. Last year's Ghosts was the worst selling CoD game since 2008's World at War with 14.5 million units. While that's nothing to cry about, Activision surely wants to return more to the days of the height of Modern Warfare's success than the good ol' days of the early entries in the franchise.

What do you think of the apparent choice to go to the future with military contractors for Call of Duty this year? Or did you already hop off that bandwagon a few games ago? Let us know in the comments after you watch the "Superpower" video below.
