There's been a number of special editions of Mario Kart 8 announced for numerous regions when the game drops at the end of the month, but North America kept getting the shaft. Now, it seems like that's finally changed, as the Limited Edition Bundle is finally coming stateside...kind of...

First Review for Mario Kart 8 Releases Early

The following statement was recently tweeted by the official Nintendo World Store: "The race is on to score our #MK8 Limited Edition Bundle exclusive to #NintendoWorld! Pre-orders start now!"

"Exclusive to Nintendo World." How's that for bittersweet? You can get the Limited Edition, but only if you happen to be near the World Store's Times Square location when the game launches. And we do mean RIGHT there. According to follow up tweets from the account, the store has already sold out of pre-order copies, making it the fastest selling item at Nintendo World. But there is a little bit of sunshine coming through that cloudy news, as the store is keeping copies an hand for any walk-ins during their 5/29 launch event.

Everything You Need to Know About Mario Kart 8's Courses

The party starts at 8 PM EST, so make sure you're in the area if you want to grab your Limited Edition. This particular version was originally announced as a European exclusive, and came with a special figurine of the rage inducing spiked blue shell, guaranteed to seek and destroy whichever racer happened to be in first place.

A Wii U exclusive, Mario Kart 8 releases at the end of this month, May 30.

The racer features one of the biggest rosters yet, with Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Rosalina, their respective infant versions, Yoshi, Bowser, Donkey Kong, Toad, Koopa Troopa, Toadette, Wario, Waluigi, Shy Guy, Metal Mario, Lakitu, and Bowser's kids Larry, Morton, Wendy, Iggy, Roy, Lemmy, and Ludwig as playable racers. Pink Gold Peach, a counter character to Metal Mario, rounds out the roster, bringing the total character count to 30.

Beyond the characters, Mario Kart 8 also adds in new items, anti-gravity, both new and favorite retro tracks, and the return of bikes, gliders, and underwater driving. Check out our hands-on preview of the game here.
