'Temple Run' Series Hits 1 Billion Downloads, Only Second Mobile Game To Do So After 'Angry Birds' [VIDEO]

Temple Run Reaches One Billion Downloads, Second Mobile Game Ever to Do So

Whether as a distraction on the go, or from the comfort of your toilet, there's hardly a soul alive that hasn't played Temple Run, and the numbers show it. Developer Imangi Studios today announced that their title (and its sequel) that popularized the endless runner genre had hit one billion downloads combined.

Temple Run 2 Blazes Past 50 Million Downloads In 13 Days

The studio also released an infographic, seen above, to share a few other of the game's accomplishments, which include:

* Players have collectively spent over 216,018 years playing Temple Run.
* Over 32 billion games have been played.
* Temple Run players have run a total of 50 trillion meters.
* 32 billion deaths, mostly from falling, collision, and the ever deadly "monkey"
* 147 trillion gold coins collected

Temple Run Gets a Disney Sequel

“Having Temple Run reach the one billion downloads mark is a milestone we couldn’t have imagined when we first started out,” said Imangi co-founder Keith Shepherd in a press release. “We’re incredibly grateful to all the Temple Run players and our wonderful team."

Like Angry Birds, Temple Run has gone on to include its own marketing line with apparel like plush toys, and there's even a larger than life version that can be found in arcades. And while Angry Birds developer Rovio has teamed with brands like Star Wars, Imangi has its own partnership with Disney to produce Temple Run: Brave and Temple Run: Oz, both of which have helped the series skyrocket in popularity.

"We look forward to continuing to grow the Temple Run franchise, as well as creating additional innovative games," said Shepherd in closing.
