'The Legend Of Zelda' LEGO Set Was Almost A Thing But Review Board Threw It Away Like A Cucco [VIDEO]

LEGO Passes On The Legend of Zelda Themed Playset, Proving The Absence of a LEGO Deity

LEGO has merged with countless properties ranging from Batman to Harry Potter, resulting in critically acclaimed and successful video games. But try to go the other way, and combine LEGO with what's already a hit video game series, and it doesn't go so well. Case in point with The Legend of Zelda, a classic franchise that LEGO fans just didn't think would work out as a playset.

Fan-Made 'Temple of Time' From Legend Of Zelda Using Unreal Engine 4 Is Epic

The set was the idea of Wes Talbott, and was a candidate for LEGO Ideas, a company portal wherein fans suggest and vote on different possible LEGO playsets, because LEGO is running teriffically low on ideas of their own. If a set manages to get 10,000 votes, it goes to the LEGO Review board, comprised of designers and marketing reps for the company. Talbott's concept made it to the review process, but the "professionals" apparently didn't see the utter coolness of Talbott's concept, and shot it down.

A damn shame, really, especially since they couldn't be bothered to explain why they wouldn't produce it. Probably something to do with the lovely world of legality and licensing as The Legend of Zelda is a Nintendo property, but LEGO has a decent enough history of working with other companies to produce some great stuff.

Instead, they went with Alatariel's Female Minifigure Set, made up of professional women in various careers, like astronomer, paleontologist, etc. Sure, it's a great example for the young ladies playing with blocks, but it's nowhere near as cool.

Oh well, maybe the LEGO X-Men: X-Mansion will fare better...

Check out the video below for a brief look at the set, and some of its special functions, and plenty more pics of the set's planning and design process here.
