A new trailer for the upcoming adaptation of Lois Lowry's seminal young adult dystopian novel The Giver has hit the net and it appears the filmmakers have listened to audience's reactions.
The trailer, released on Yahoo, is far different and far better than the first teaser. One of the big components of the 1993 novel was that, due to the Sameness of society, there was no war, no hunger, but also, no color. The receptors had been blocked, as it were, and we all saw the world in a plain, black and white. The original trailer for the upcoming film was all bright colors and epic bombast, and the internet took umbrage with that fact. The new trailer has re-added that mechanic, though whether the black and white elements were always a part of the movie or whether director Philip Noyce was forced into it under studio pressure remains to be seen. Either way, the movie looks slightly more like the book, though it still appears to be taking some massive liberties with the source material.
Fans of the novel, of which there are many, will note that this seems far more action-packed than the book, which burned with a fierce but subtle fire. The adaptation appears to be of the 'very loosely based on' variety. The characters are here, but their actions are altered. The Giver character himself, played by Jeff Bridges, seems to be a slightly more rebellions soul, while Jonas, the main character, is not only much older, but stumbles across the Giver not because he is told he is to become the next one, as in the book, but because he himself is doing something he should not.

The trailer utilizes Lux Aeterna by Clint Mansell, the main theme from Requiem For A Dream, a mainstay in the art of the trailer. I could have sworn its use in all trailers was banned since it was used so well for The Two Towers 12 years ago.
