One of Android's best and most popular apps, SwiftKey, is now permanently free on Google Play, and a new update is bringing multiple improvements and additional features.

Uber Transportation Service Valued At $17 Billion

The efficient keyboard is coming to iOS 8 when it launches this fall, and has now dropped its price from $4 to no charge on its original platform Android. In addition, those who already own the app will benefit as well: they will be getting the Premier Pack containing 10 themes, normally sold at $5, for free.

There will also be three additional free themes available to new and current users, and one new default theme, Nickel, has been added. The newest version, available now, will also come with a SwiftKey store, which offers 30 free and premium themes at launch and be "refreshed" regularly. The app will also include more than 800 emojis (Android devices running 4.1 or higher required).

As for improvements that don't involve themes or emojis, the update is also adding an optional number key row, a popular request. The prediction engine and flow trails have been upgraded, which should make typing even easier regardless of which method you choose.

SwiftKey is believed by many, myself included, to be superior to most default keyboards available on Android devices, offering customization, smart predictions, and better accuracy. It also includes some neat stat trackers, where the app tells you how many of your typos it has corrected over time and how many keystrokes it has saved you. Download it for free now on Google Play, or keep an eye out for its launch this fall if you're using an iPhone.
