'Everybody's Gone To The Rapture' PS4 E3 2014 Trailer Reveals A Lonelier Kind Of Apocalypse, Beautifully Rendered In The Cryengine [VIDEO]

'Everybody's Gone To The Rapture' E3 2014 Trailer Reveals A Lonelier Kind Of AApocalypse

Amidst all the hubbub, explosions and other loud noises this E3, it can be easy for something, especially a new IP, to slip between the cracks. Developers The Chinese Room have released a new, mysterious teaser for their upcoming property Everybody's Gone to the Rapture. Though not a horror game, one cannot help but feel a little unnerved by it.

The teaser is a short clip that places you near an empty house. A bicycle lays on its side in the middle of the road, as if its owner had suddenly vanished. As you walk hesitantly through a field of grass towards a large tree, a light appears and almost begs you to follow it.

The Rapture is the Biblical event before the coming of the Tribulation. In it, all the worthy souls are to be transported to heaven where the Backstreet Boys will serenade them for eternity, while the rest of the poor shmucks on earth have to deal with seven years of living hell before Jesus comes back and kicks some ass. The concept can make for a very exciting trailer, or a very lonely video game.

Magic: The Gathering Movie Finally Moving Forward

The Chinese Room, the creators of the Half-Life 2 mod Dear Esther and Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs, opted for the latter. The game will put you as one of six survivors who have been left behind in an English village in 1984. Each have to deal with the fallout of the impending apocalypse. Little else is known, save that the six characters all exist in the same town and that the game will allow players to manipulate objects, like opening and closing doors, while their actions can affect the world around them.

Everybody's Gone to the Rapture will run off the Cryengine and was originally designed exclusively for PC, but will now be available only on PS4. It's bound to look gorgeous, no matter where it winds  up. No other word or gameplay details have been released. Watch the trailer below.
