'Aquaman' Cast, 'Game of Thrones' Star Jason Momoa Will Play The Lord of Atlantis In Zak Snyder's Justice League Movie

Jason Momoa Will Play Aquaman In Justice League Film

WB is quickly filling in the gaps of its upcoming franchises. The company recently announced its plans for a shared DC superhero universe akin to Marvel's Avengers series, lining up a half dozen films from now until 2018 and the first of several missing parts has just been cast.

WB Sets Up Its Justice League Shared Universe

Hitfix reports that Khal Drogo himself, Jason Momoa will don the green and yellow-gold spandex as Aquaman, the lord of the ocean and one of the founding members of the Justice League. He will be making a cameo appearance in the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Though it has not been confirmed officially by the WB, director Zak Snyder has pretty much sealed the deal that Aquaman will be making an appearance and that Momoa will be in the role. Snyder has finalized the design of the character, which hopefully is less silly looking, but not too gritty. He reports that Aquaman's scenes will be shooting soon.

Vincent D'Onofrio Cast As Kingpin In Upcoming Daredevil Netflix Series

Aquaman is, of course, the butt of many jokes. Though he was given a bad ass hook hand in recent comics, he's usually relegated to punchline status, given that really all people know about him is that he can communicate with fish. Given the events in Man of Steel, which dealt a mighty blow to the Indian Ocean, Hitfix speculates that Aquaman's initial appearance will be less than friendly.

The character itself is not slated for his own spinoff movie according to DC's current line-up of films, instead appearing in the Justice League movie scheduled for May 2017. One hopes that one of the most venerated, enduring characters of the DC universe will be given his own film, a Thor meets Avatar-esque undersea adventure with heavy environmental overtones.

Momoa delighted audiences as Khal Drogo in HBO's Game of Thrones, playing the buff, shirtless badass with glee and pathos. The all too brief role was essentially an audition for Momoa's turn as Conan the Barbarian in the disappointing reboot. It is safe to say that whatever design Snyder has for the Lord of Atlantis, Aquaman will definitely not be wearing a shirt.

Poor, poor Aquaman just can't get a break, right?
