'League Of Legends' Summoner's Rift Update Preview: Riot Games Shows Off Changes To Popular MOBA Map [VIDEO]

'League Of Legends' Summoner's Rift Preview Update

The nice folks at Riot Games have released a new video showcasing the upcoming Summoner's Rift changes for the wildly, insanely popular MOBA, League of Legends.

Summoner's Rift is perhaps the most played and popular Field of Justice map in the game, so it makes sense that Riot would be focusing on constantly updating it. The company has pledged that they will never make a League of Legends 2, and will simply tinker with the game to let it evolve over the years, decades, and possibly centuries.

The idea behind the update to Summoner's Rift is, as the narrator of the video expresses, all about 'clarity'. They're adjusting the color palette and saturation to make it easier to pick out who's who in the utterly crazy melees that occur towards the end of any League battle. Unit management is an important factor in the game and your ability to pick out your guys could be the difference between victory and defeat. Environmental changes have cut back on some of the shrubbery and allowing players more freedom of movement. The goal is to have players focus first and foremost on their opponents and not the world itself. Which is a smart move; games are meant to be played, not exploited.

Additionally, the mobs found in the jungle portion of the map have been given a facelift, and the two boss mobs, Dragon and Baron Nashor, have been updated to provide more of a challenge and offer a touch of ceremony to their encounters. Dragon now swoops in from above, as if he has some other pressing business but okay, he'll deal with you before returning to it.

You can check out the update video below, and be sure to follow along the dev blog here. No changes are absolutely final, and you can expect to hear more about the Summoner's Rift update in the coming months. In the meantime, League of Legends is always free to play!
