NVIDIA Shield Tablet Announced: Gaming-Focused Devices Packs Powerful Hardware And Multiple Features

NVIDIA has announced the new gaming-focused Shield Tablet, which packs some powerful hardware and features.

iPhone 6 Coming In Late September, According To Industry Analyst

Pre-orders are available now and will launch the U.S. and Canada on July 29. The standard Shield Tablet is priced at $299 and will run Android, like its Shield gaming handheld cousin. You can purchase the standard device with just Wi-Fi connectivity and 16 GBs of storage, or an upgraded 32 GB configuration that comes with Wi-Fi and LTE for $399.

NVIDIA is releasing a wireless gaming controller to use with the Shield Tablet, which will retail at $59, and a tablet cover for $39. It comes pre-loaded with Trine 2: The Complete Story, and combat flight simulator War Thunder will be available for the device as well, the developers announced.

The Shield Tablet boasts the newest Tegra K1 processor and 2GB of RAM, which will power the 1920x1200 resolution on the device's 8-inch display. Shield products are optimized for gaming, and that's quite clearly the focus with this tablet. You can play games from Google Play in addition to streaming a title from your PC using NVIDIA's GameStream feature.

Games should run well given the tablet's hardware, and streaming from PC relies on the computer's specs. The Shield Tablet's guts can output 4K video to compatible displays, stream to Twitch, and support multiple controllers. You can find out more on NVIDIA's site here.
