Mass Effect Comic-Con Panel Reveals First Details: Redesigned Mako, Focus On Planet Exploration And Images Of New Hero

One of many Comic-Con panels held during the event was Bioware's Mass Effect panel, which revealed what are the first real details about the next game in the series--one that you shouldn't call Mass Effect 4.

A post on NeoGaf recorded the information revealed during the panel, which confirmed some of what we already knew about the game and told us many things we did not. The game will seemingly take place during Shepard's lifetime but will not focus on him, and it was implied the setting may be in a different galaxy entirely.

Supporting that point was an emphasis on the exploration of planets, something that was part of the series since the original game, but was not fully fleshed out. In addition, a new version of the Mako was revealed and featured heavily--it has no cannon this time around and was described as an agile, quick way of traversing planets, further supporting the focus on exploration. The panel showed video of the Mako prototype in action along with other gameplay clips, which you can see below.

The male and female versions of the new hero were displayed as well, although they were clad head to toe in armor--meaning we learned nothing other than that they will be humanoid, which I think was already a safe assumption. They also touched on multiplayer, stating that cooperative play is more of a focus than competitive.

It won't be called Mass Effect 4, a point that was seemingly made emphatically during the panel. A few other odds and ends were outlined or hinted at, which you can read about through the post above, which also links Twitter accounts that shared the information during the panel.
