World Of Tanks Gets Behind The Scenes Of Upcoming WWII Tank Film 'Saints And Soldiers The Void': Wargaming Checks Out A Fully Operational Panzer

Wargaming takes its tank combat very, very seriously. They are meticulous down to the smallest detail for the designs of each and every tank in World of Tanks. Treads, weight, penetration, range, all of it is based on real life specs from actual tanks used in World War II and later. So when they show up on the set of a tank-focused movie, you can bet you'll be getting an earful of tech talk.

The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies Trailer Is Awesome

Which is precisely what happened when Wargaming got a Behind the Scenes look at the Panzer III design used in the upcoming film Saints And Soldiers: The Void. The most awesome bit of information is that Randy Beard, the chief armorer on the film, just made one. Just straight up made a German replica tank. A replica tank that could fool just about anyone but the most hardcore tank aficionado, which Wargaming's 'The Chieftain' absolutely is.

The six minute BTS film is the second part of a series focused on Saints And Soldiers: The Void, the third entry into the relatively unknown WWII combat series of films. The first episode of Wargaming's coverage can be seen here and focuses on the cast and crew involved.

Warcraft Comic Con Trailer Description

While I found the second entry a little too over my head, there's a lot of jargon thrown around for the relatively uninitiated like myself, historical collectors and military history fans will thoroughly enjoy the time, care and attention paid to the smallest of accuracies in the film. And let's face it, it's a movie about tanks, so of course we're going to be more than a little interested to learn more.

Saints And Soldiers: The Void follows a Hellcat tank crew as they try to make their way home just after Hitler's death and are ambushed by three Panzer III German tanks which have dug in and along with a small platoon, are looking to ambush Allied supply lines. The film centers on Jesse Owens (not that Jesse Owens), a black American who drives the tank and how he deals with not only the Nazism overseas, but the racism he witnesses at home.

The film is based in some historical truth. The supply line the Germans hope to disrupt, dubbed The Red Ball Express, was a real and vital support for the Allies.

You can watch the trailer for the film here. It is the third in a series of slightly historically accurate World War II films directed by Ryan Little. The first is called Saints And Soldiers and was released in 2002. The second, Saints And Soldiers: Airborne Creed came out in 2012. By the looks of it, Little appears to be hitting all the major forces used in World War II. Perhaps next, something about the Navy?

Saints And Soldiers: The Void is getting a limited release on August 15, with a larger theatrical run on August 29.

Much like having two asteroid films or two Scottish highlander epics coming out in the same, Saints And Soldiers: The Void comes out a few months before the Brad Pitt tank drama Fury.

Tank fans, check out Wargaming's behind the scenes coverage on some of the exquisite tank action you can expect below. Please, don't build your own tank...unless it's in World of Tanks!
