No Man's Sky A Limited-Time PS4 Exclusive, Confirmed For PC After First Release

No Man's Sky, the upcoming PlayStation 4 indie title that has captured the industry's attention, will eventually be coming to PC, too.

The game was only confirmed for PS4 at first and seemed like it may only appear on Sony's console, but the September issue of Edge reveals that it will be a limited exclusive before heading to PC.

The developers also talked about why they created the game with the PS4 in mind first, and how that influences the game itself.

"I actually got in a bit of trouble for saying that we wanted the game to feel really 'console-y,'" Hello Games' Sean Murray explained. "We've always had PC in mind but in my head [console-y] means solid framerate and immediate controls. I think a PC game can be 'console-y' and it's intended as a compliment, but I get in trouble for saying it."

The hardware's power shaped what the team was able to do with the game--procedural generation is taxing, and the game's richness and fullness relies on what the system can do. Making the game for a unified console experience helps streamline the development, and can be tweaked for PC later.

No Man's Sky launches on PS4 in 2015, and it's unclear when the eventual PC port would be--the developers likely have not decided themselves. Creating the best PC port experience may take time, and putting a strict schedule on it this far ahead of time is probably unrealistic--stay tuned for more news as the first release date approaches.
