The Guinness World Records released a list of the top 50 Video Game Endings of All time. Top honors went to Activison and Treyarch's Call of Duty franchise as having the greatest ending in a video game. The second place honor went to Microsoft's Halo: Reach and third was Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
To achieve these results, the Guinness World Records surveyed over 13,500 video game players to ask which games had the best ending. The results has stirred up debate among the gaming community. Call of Duty: Black Ops leapt over other popular titles such as Metal Gear Solid 4, Super Mario Bros., Final Fantasy VII, Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, and Resident Evil to take the number one spot.
Call of Duty's ending plot begins with a deployment of an assault team with characters Mason and Hudson diving underwater to breach a Soviet secret base. The US Navy is called upon to destroy the ship while the antagonists searched and killed Dragovich before escaping to the surface for a declared victory. Footage of President Kennedy follows a brief clip of a broadcaster reading numbers or coordinates. After the credits, gamers surprised with additional gameplay where they can play as John F. Kennedy, Richard Nixon, Fidel Castro and Robert McNamara to shoot down zombies in the Pentagon offices.
