Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition Announced For Next-Gen Consoles, PC: Play GTA Clone In 1080p

Xbox One and PS4 gamers will be able to purchase Square Enix' Sleeping Dogs in a brand new remastered edition this October. The only question is- will they?

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition Represented A 'First Step at a New Lara Croft' For Next-Gen

Sleeping Dogs came out in 2012 and was a mild hit for the company. Like many other games cribbing on Grand Theft Auto it took what makes that series so great- the giant, fully-explorable world, the gunfights and car chases, the story full of backstabbings and a man on his way up- and added a great melee combat system.

It's a perfectly servicable game but nearly everything in it had been done before, and better. Unlike Tomb Raider, the first title Square Enix remastered for next-gen, Sleeping Dogs felt like it was forgotten soon after release, despite numerous pieces of DLC (24 in total!) made available for the game. So why are they doing it?

The Last Of Us Remastered PS4 vs PS3 Graphics Comparison

"It was an exciting opportunity for the original development team to be able revisit a game we're so passionate about", said Dan Sochan, Senior Producer at United Front Games. "We're giving old and new fans a lot reasons to pick up the game, as we've gone beyond just increasing resolution and running at 1080p. We listened to the fans: we tuned gameplay, we added to the ambience of Hong Kong, increased audio fidelity and pushed the visuals further than we could on the previous generation of consoles."

It will be interesting to hear more about what's been changed- will it feature the numerous changes that Lara Croft went through for her game's re-release? The announcement trailer doesn't help answer those questions as it doesn't feature any footage from the game, instead showing some live-action combat and action.

Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition will be released for PS4, Xbox One and PC on October 14 in North America. More as we hear it!
