Google Glass 20.1 Update Upgrades Contacts, Features

New Google Glass Update Retools The Way Glass Handles Contacts

The Google Glass 20.1 update is making getting in touch with your 20 closest friends easier and faster.

The update makes all of your Google Contacts accessible from Google Glass, and it places 20 of your most recent and starred contacts within reach using just a voice command. The rest of your address book is then available through swiping. Once you pick a contact, you then have the option of reaching out through Google Hangouts, over email or by text message.

Other improvements in this latest update include a Nearby Events card in Google Now, which shows you events and concerts happening in your area. If you're ever stuck inside on a Friday evening with nothing going on, Google's got your back. The 20.1 update also includes a new tool for the globe-trotting portion of the wearable's user base. Google Glass can now display currency conversions for whatever country you're visiting with another new card in Google Now.

The head tilt, which has been able to turn off the Glass display, can now be toggled on and off via its own card in Settings (the head tilt to wake up Glass is controlled on a separate card). Finally, 20.1 is adding a handful of new voice commands for during phone calls and after taking a picture or video. Tell that bystander looking sideways at you that, no, you're not just talking to yourself. You posted a picture of your latte on your Facebook Wall.

According to Google, the new update should be available now for Android users, and iOS folks will be ready to go in about a week.
