Alone In The Dark: Illumination: Atari Reinvents Classic Horror Series With New Teaser Trailer, Promises Multiplayer

The Alone In The Dark: Illumination Teaser Trailer Shows That Horror Games Have Come A Long Way Sine 1992

Atari hsas released a new teaser trailer for its upcoming installment in the decades-old Alone in the Dark series of horror survival games, titled Alone in the Dark: Illumination.

Alienware Presents The Most Powerful Triangular Computer Ever

The upcoming game, set to release sometime this fall according to the teaser, sports an impressive pedigree. The original Alone in the Dark was the forefather of the 3D survival horror genre and a predecessor to all of the survival horror games that seem to have exploded over the past few years.

Illumination seems to be trying to brand itself as a more direct successor to the original. Two of the main characters in Illumination are stated to be descendants of the two protagonists from the original game. The new game is also drawing from the same source of inspiration that the original did. The Lovecraftian themes of Alone in the Dark are back in full force in Illumination. Of course, the original formula has been updated to instill terror in a new generation of gamers.

The game takes place in Lorwich, Virginia, and old and abandoned mining town. It's the players job to investigate the evils that are said to lurk around the town and caused its evacuation in the first place. Illumination introduces the player to four new characters, each of whom have different abilities and will be playable. The Hunter, the Witch, the Priest and the Engineer are all teaming up in this installment to combat the evil force known only as The Darkness. The game will also include multiplayer modes so that up to four players can take on The Darkness together. There is strength in numbers, after all.

Alone in the Dark: Illumination is set to release for PC sometime this fall.
