First Hyrule Warriors DLC Released In Japan: Link Gets The Classic 8 Bit Sword And Shield; European eShop Has Sale On All Listed Zelda Titles

New Hyrule Warriors DLC Gives Link A Blast From The Past

One of the most anticipated titles releasing this fall is Hyrule Warriors, the new action-oriented, Dynasty Warriors-esque game set in the world of The Legend Of Zelda. The game has been out for about two weeks already in Japan and today, has gotten its first bit of DLC content.

Dragon Quest Heroes Will Be A Dynasty Warriors Inspired Actioner

The new content goes straight for the nostalgia market. In a tweet from Nintendo Of Europe, the 8 bit sword and shield from the original The Legend Of Zelda for the NES is now available for Link. Needless to say, it looks somewhat ridiculous, but then again, he is an elf wearing a floppy green hat so we'll forgive him his aesthetic choices.

No, it is not a Minecraft weapon. Seriously kids, learn your history.

Speaking Of Minecraft, Update 1.8 Is Out

The DLC comes free to Japanese players and as such, will also be made available for European players on September 19 and for us lowly North Americans on September 26. A world map inspired by the original game is already in place as part of the game's Adventure mode which will allow you to access more characters and items.

It is encouraging that Nintendo has learned to embrace DLC. We all complain about the endless updates, but when done right, can keep players coming back and enhancing and subtly altering the entire experience. Especially when it's done for free.

Additionally, those Europeans get all the luck. We bail them out of not one but two, TWO, wars and they go ahead and get a massive sale on all currently available Zelda titles on the eShop? Come on, son.

I hope my enthusiasm is not diminished by the time the game gets released here in the States. So far, so good.
