Firewatch Live Gameplay Demo Shows Off Open Ended Narrative In The First-Person Mystery Game

Get A Load Of Park Ranger Simulator Gameplay With A Firewatch Live Demo

Developer Campo Santo livestreamed a quick gameplay demo for their new first-person mystery Firewatch, showing off the multiple ways the player can tackle any given assignment.

Evoland 2 Is Bringing Their Ultimate RPG Tribute Back For Another Round

In Firewatch, you take on the role of Henry, a rookie park ranger tasked with maintaining fire safety in a Wyoming national park. The other major narrative player is Delilah, Henry's supervisor who only interacts with him over a walkie-talkie. The game tracks Henry and Delilah's relationship over the course of dozens of conversations. How the player responds to Delilah and interacts with the world will begin to affect how the characters interact, letting every player slowly build his or her own story.

The gameplay looks to be part narrative-driven and part exploration-based. Henry can navigate the forest – which, by the way, looks great – by climbing, repelling and vaulting over obstacles, letting players discover their own favorite corners of the wilderness. Of course, this "first-person mystery" game also contains an over-arching mystery that the player will get to investigate over the course of the story.

No Man's Sky Will Be A Timed PS4 Exclusive

The developers note that there are major narrative moments that all players will experience, but the details are left for the player to provide. They mention that some elements of the game are inspired by another narrative-driven game, The Fullbright Company's Gone Home. If you're quick, you can even see a copy of the Greenbriar dad's novel Accidental Savior sitting in Henry's cabin.

For more footage, you can check out the video over on Campo Santo's Twitch channel. The actual gameplay starts about eight minutes in. Firewatch is expected to hit Steam in 2015.
