Possibly the most popular of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's superhero girlfriends, Hayley Atwell's Peggy Carter is set to make her television debut on this season's Agents of SHIELD premiere.

We all knew Peggy Carter was coming to television in the 8-part miniseries Agent Carter, scheduled for ABC broadcast during Agents of SHIELD's winter hiatus, but Marvel and ABC have now thrown a very nice curveball our way by actually featuring Marvel's favorite girlfriend in the second season's premiere.

As per Marvel's official website, the season premiere will deal with "Coulson and his team [now being] wanted fugitives with limited resources--but that's not stopping them from keeping the world safe from powerful and unseen threats everywhere. However, with new members they hardly know, will S.H.I.E.L.D. ever be trusted again?"

Exactly how the show will incorporate Peggy Carter is an unknown at this point. A flashback to the early days of SHIELD teasing the miniseries seems likely, but do keep in mind that Peggy is actually still alive in the modern day, as seen in Winter Soldier. Will Coulson find an old video message from one of the founding members, inspiring him to go back to SHIELD's roots for his newly underground organization?

We'll all find out soon! The second season of Marvel's Agents Of SHIELD premieres Tuesday, September 23 at 9:00 p.m. ET.
