Apple Announces The iPhone 6 And The iPhone 6 Plus

The new iPhones are "the biggest advancement in the history of iPhone," Cook told the crowd of tech press and industry insiders.

Size is the defining factor of each phone. The iPhone 6 has a 4.7-inch screen, while the iPhone 6 Plus boasts a jumbo 5.5-inch screen, putting it squarely in the "phablet" (phone-tablet) category against several offerings from Samsung. The iPhone 5S had a 4-inch screen size (screen sizes are measured diagonally).

The iPhone 6 boasts a 1 MP display at more than 720p (1334x750) while the 6 Plus contains over 2 million pixels--that's 185 percent more than the 5S for a 1080p resolution of 1900x1080. Both are powered by Apple's new A8 processor.

The battery powering the device is getting major improvements as well: the iPhone 6 can play music for 50 hours, while the iPhone 6 Plus can play audio for 80 hours (the 5S would die after 40). The 6's battery can support 14 hours of 3G talk, while the 6 Plus can support a full 24-hour day's worth of 3G conversation.
