Get Deep Inside The Rust Monster With This D&D5 Monster Manual Page Preview

Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition, or D&D Next as it is called in hipper circles, has launched the Player's Handbook already, but here's a little preview of the upcoming Monster Manual. Hope your monsterese isn't rusty! (Sorry.)

The rust monster entry for this edition's Monster Manual showcases an excellently-designed lay-out with clear stat blocks and an imaginative description of the monster's behavior. Forbes got an exclusive look at the rust monster, so please go check their full history of the creature for the full page preview.

As you can see, an average of hit die is given as the beast's standard hit points, with the option for dungeon masters to weaken or strengthen any given encounter at their leisure. Two basic attacks are described which is an easy way for DMs to get dirty if the players provoke this poor underground dweller.

The fifth edition Monster Manual seems to have addressed at least one concern with Fourth Edition, which is that the presentation of monsters - while clear and easily navigable - lacked a certain amount of lore to really spark the imagination. While we're not exactly back to the days of mating behavior like in AD&D, the text block next to the stat block should appease those who were looking for a bit more iron on their rust monster.

The Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition Monster Manual will be available September 30. You can order it straight off Wizards' website right here.
