Official Civilization: Beyond Earth Gameplay Trailer Released, Firaxis Starts Let's Play-Style Livestream Tomorrow

Official Civilization: Beyond Earth Gameplay Trailer Released A Day Before Firaxis Starts Its Livestream Let's Play

An official gameplay trailer for Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth was released today, offering fans a 10-minute, comprehensive look at the upcoming entry in the storied Civ franchise.

Looking At Wonders In Beyond Earth

The trailer goes through a summary of many of the game's new aspects. The video also comes with chapter titles at the bottom that are linked with timestamps in the video. Just click one if there's a specific facet of the game you'd like to learn about.

Some interesting information that the video provides is that the game's different faction sponsors are not tied to specific Affinities. Unlike in a game like Civ V, where you could guess from the beginning how your neighboring civs will approach gameplay based on your past interactions with them, a faction in a game of Beyond Earth could end up pursuing any kind of Affinity. The Kavithan Protectorate could work toward Supremacy in one game then just as easily pursue Purity in the next.

Some Factions do seem to have certain personality traits – last week's Firaxis live gameplay demo mentioned that everyone seems to get into land wars with the Soviet Federation – but their Affinities are up for grabs every game.

The trailer also mentions that players will likely not be able to max out their Tech Web in a single game. Specialization and prioritization is key when researching new technologies.

Tomorrow, Firaxis will be continuing its livestream gameplay of Beyond Earth, but starting this week, the format will be a little different. Instead of focusing on a specific gameplay mechanic to highlight, the developers will be doing a Let's Play-style runthrough of a round of Beyond Earth. The Let's Play will span several weeks, according to last week's announcement, as the Firaxis team aims for a Domination victory with the militaristic Brasilia faction.

Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth will drop for PCs on October 24.
