Xbox One Vine App Released, Only Allows Video Viewing And Does Not Offer Feed Personalization

A Vine app has been released for Xbox One, bringing the hyper-short video service to Microsoft's new console.

The Xbox One pitches itself as the all-in-one media center for your living room, explaining why apps such as Vine would appear on what is primarily a gaming console. Video streaming services such as Netflix are vital to what Microsoft hopes to accomplish with the console, and Vine is yet another service added to the stable. The news comes courtesy of the official Xbox Wire.

This is Vine's first foray onto televisions: the app is mainly used on smartphones, or for sharing on tablets and computers through Twitter. It will be interesting to see if the popularity translates to the big screen: do the short videos hold the same appeal outside the palm of your hand?

It seems the console version of the app loses the personalization that makes the smartphone version addicting--it only loads categories and popular videos instead of letting you sign in and customize the content you see.As such, it doesn't seem likely that this will catch on or earn regular use for most Xbox One owners. Some may occasionally flip through videos or experiment with the app, but the mobile version's customization (and the ability for you to jump from creating to viewing on the same platform) remains more appealing.
