Rebel Galaxy Announced For PS4 And PC From Former Torchlight Developers: Command Your Own Starship And Fight Space Pirates Next Year [TRAILER]

With A Rebel Galaxy Announcement Trailer / She Cried More! More! More!

The founders of Runic Games, the studio behind the phenomenal hack 'n' slash series Torchlight, have formed a new studio called Double Damage. Today they released the trailer for the studio's first title, Rebel Galaxy, and it looks promising as all get out.

Watching the trailer, embedded below, one cannot help but wonder what wildly popular, short-lived FOX sci-fi show may have inspired the team over at Double Damage. (Oh! I know, M.A.N.T.I.S. Definitely M.A.N.T.I.S.) The opening musical notes are full on western-themed space opera, and we all should be fine with that.

In Rebel Galaxy, you take command of a starship and galavant about the galaxy to 'fight, steal, trade, negotiate, rebel' across a huge, randomly generated universe. One assumes that we are using 'negotiate' in the Attack of the Clones definition of the word.

"Since the announcement of our studio we've been hard at work building Rebel Galaxy, and we're excited to finally unveil it," said Travis Baldree, co-founder. "This has been a game we've wanted to make for a long time, and we look forward to sharing more details with players as development continues."

From the official site, "As the commander of an immensely powerful star destroyer, you'll battle pirates, explore anomalies, befriend aliens, scavenge battle wreckage, mine asteroids, and discover artifacts. Choose your path as a roguish do-gooder, crafty space-trader or power-hungry privateer - or maybe a little of each! Buy larger and more powerful craft with your hard-earned credits, and outfit them with a variety of wicked weapons and defenses."

It's all the best parts of Firefly, Farscape, Star Wars all rolled into one. Rebel Galaxy is coming out in 2015 to PS4 and Steam. No official release date has been set, nor price point.
