Xbox One November Update Preview: New Software Includes Profile Improvements, SmartGlass Upgrades, Twitter Integration

Get A Sneak Peak At Xbox One's November Update

Xbox One's November update is on its way, and it's packed with features to increase user personalization and media sharing.

It Looks Like Either Kenshi Or Ermac Will Be In Mortal Kombat X

The update, previewed by Xbox Live's Major Nelson in a video released yesterday, includes a couple of new personalization features that will help every Xbox One player make his home screen and profile his own. More options are coming for the kinds of images that users can place as their home screen's wallpaper. Unlocking certain Achievements will grant the player special wallpapers, and later updates will add the ability to upload any picture as an Xbox One home page background.

The Xbox Live profile is also getting an upgrade with the showcase system. In a profile's showcase, players can display up to six achievements or game replays that they want to show off to the community. Got a sweet triple headshot in Destiny? Save that sucker as a replay and stick it in your showcase. Beat Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare on the hardest difficulty? Put that achievement next to it. Bragging rights are getting a whole lot easier.

For players who like to use Microsoft's SmartGlass second-screen experience, that app is also getting a few upgrades. Come November, SmartGlass will allow users to see what games their friends have been playing. Xbox Live Gold members can also use the app to check out what games are available on Free Games for Gold that month. They can then start downloading the games to their console, even if they're out for the day.

Finally, the November update for Xbox One is throwing in new functionality thanks to Twitter integration. Xbox owners will be able to connect their Gamertag with their Twitter handle. Then, when they want to share a replay, they can choose to share it over Twitter in addition to the existing options of sharing it with their Activity Feed or in a message.
