Super Smash Bros Wii U Pic Of The Day Reveals Punch-Out Boxing Ring Screen With Character Nicknames

Super Smash Bros Wii U will be largely similar to the 3DS version in terms of gameplay, characters, and stages, but there are notable differences between the two as well.

Some of these are small, while others are wholesale features, and today's pic of the day shows off an example of the former. The Boxing Ring Punch-Out!! stage is in both titles, but the Wii U version will have some bells and whistles. The image above depicts the stage's big screen, which series director Masahiro Sakurai discussed in the post:

"The giant screen in the Boxing Ring stage for Wii U reenacts the multiscreen effect seen in the arcade version of Punch-Out!! Looks like their aliases are displayed on the screen too."

New details aren't too frequent, since we saw most of the reveals during the 3DS version's hype cycle, but Wii U information in still coming. The largest info dump yet, as it happens, will be later today--Nintendo is planning a live stream event that promises to reveal "50 new things" about the Wii U version. The live stream will kick off later today at 6 p.m. Eastern, 3 p.m. Pacific.
