Guild Wars 2 Currency Exchange Changes Reversed In One Day Following Negative Player Response

ArenaNet recently changed the currency system within Guild Wars 2, but player backlash has already prompted the developers to add the original options back into the game.

Upgraded GTA San Andreas For Xbox 360 Confirmed

Just yesterday, the team made it so that gold can only be spent on gems (used to buy items) at set, specific amounts. Players had always been able to spend their gold in any amount, and the sudden restrictions were not well-received.

Thus, with the vocal negative response taken into account, the system has been updated again to include the original format, too. Guild Wars 2 is good about its second currency type--there are no pay-to-win items on the market to buy with gems, mostly just cosmetic items. Some are very low cost, though, and can be acquired with just gold. In the now-defunct system, you'd have to pay a minimum of 400 gems (or real money), even if the item you wanted to purchase only cost a couple dozen gold. ArenaNet explained what it was going for with the update, and the new solution for those who did not like the changes:

"It's clear quite a lot of you would like to have greater flexibility in using the Currency Exchange," wrote communications head Gaile Gray. "Our intention when we designed the new interface was to streamline large volume purchases, which make up the majority of transactions. In light of your feedback, we will update the Currency Exchange so that you can decide how you want to use it.

"We will keep the new streamlined system and also offer a new 'Custom' button on the panel that you can use to exchange any increment of gems or gold."
