PS4 System Update 2.01 Now Live, Fixes Rest Mode Crash Issue From Version 2.00

PS4 System Update 2.01 Now Live, Fixes Rest Mode Crash Issue From Version 2.00

A new PlayStation software update to fix the issues caused by version 2.00 is now live on PSN.

Grand Theft Auto 5 For PS4, Xbox One And PC Will Have A Full First Person Mode

PlayStation promised a coming patch to the latest version of its software, which caused console freezes (even making some systems fail permanently) when using rest mode. PlayStation's Twitter account promised last night that the update would be coming "soon", and 2.01 is now available for download.

The update is just 217.2 MBs, so it shouldn't take long to download. Connecting your system to PSN will prompt the update to begin, and given the consequences of using rest mode without the new software, it's definitely something you should look to do as soon as possible.

System update 2.00 brought some great features to the console, which were unfortunately marred by these issues. You can share a game with a friend online with Share Play, allowing them to play a title alone or alongside you even if they don't own a copy. No downloading is required--the data streams from the host's machine, though the connection quality will vary.

The update also added a YouTube app (finally), as well as dashboard themes and a USB music player. Share Play is the most unique and interesting feature, though its reliance on a steady connection could prove troublesome. The experience is very cool when it works, but input delay is nearly ever-present, and some work lies ahead. For now, at least, the current software version won't break your console--download 2.01 as soon as you're able.
