All Windows Phone 8 Devices Will Upgrade To Windows 10 In The Future, Microsoft Confirms

Microsoft has revealed that all Windows Phone 8 devices will eventually be upgraded to Windows 10.

The operating system is still in development, but users who buy a phone now before it launches won't be punished by getting stuck with an older OS. Microsoft explained as much in a tweet on its Lumia account (spotted by Windows Central) to a user who posed the question.

That plan might seem like something you'd always expect, but some customers were burned before. Windows Phone 7 users were left in the dust when Microsoft upgraded to Windows 8, which was mainly caused by a larger technical difference in the two software versions than the jump from Windows 8 to 10.

Still, Microsoft already faces an uphill battle against Android and iOS on the market, so pleasing its relatively small user base is essential-promising to upgrade every device is a positive step. It's unclear when to expect these upgrades (Windows 10 itself still isn't set, after all), but they'll likely come sometime next year.
