New Final Fantasy XV Tech Demo Shows Off Insane Next-Gen Engine; Luminous Hair, Animation And Level Design [VIDEO]

See How Square Enix's New Luminous Engine Looks in The First Final Fantasy XV Tech Demo

Final Fantasy XV is not content to simply be the prettiest belle at the ball. The game went and made a behind the scenes tech demo showing you exactly why it will never have to work hard a day in its life, and be given everything it ever desires. Yeah. It's trophy-wife pretty.

Some Final Fantasy XV Screens In Glorious HD

The tech demo takes you into the nuts and bolts of level, character and effects design. Square is utilizing its new Luminous engine for the title and the name is quite apropos: it's illuminating. Gorgeous, stunning.

One really hopes that they someday introduce the level editor used in the demo for commercial purposes. How cool would it be to make your own open world Final Fantasy level? I mean, Square Enix isn't remaking VII and while we love Little Big Planet, it's just not the same.

I Am Shocked That Far Cry 4 Is Getting A Day One Patch

The next-gen-only offering will certainly be pushing the limits of the technology. The game looks rendered to the point of overdoing it. The hair effects are quite lovely, and modeled after real world wigs rendered with motion capture. Add that the story will be less 'kill your God' than most other Final Fantasy titles and focus on a nitty, gritty invasion and the sense of realism will be heightened more than ever.

And the lighting. Oh, don't get me started on the lighting.

The gameplay will be more Kingdom Hearts in its execution. Real time battle will supplant the traditional turn based style, which will hopefully create a more fluid and well paced experience.

While no specific release date has been set, players will gain access to the first chapter in the game, titled Final Fantasy Episode Duscae, alongside Final Fantasy Type-0 HD in March.
