Nintendo's amiibo Figures Nearing Release: Mario, Link, Samus Among 12 Characters Hitting Alongside Super Smash Bros For Wii U

Super Smash Bros. is releasing for Wii U on November 21, but Nintendo has more for you to pick up that day. That day they are also releasing their first line of amiibo figures, Nintendo's first foray into the "toys-to-life category", which Skylanders invented and Disney Infinity continued.

The reason they're releasing everything all at once is because the amiibos can be used in Super Smash Bros.

“Launching Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and amiibo on the same day kicks off the holiday shopping season with a bang...and a smash,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing, in a press release. “With a wide range of amiibo figures to choose from and a new Super Smash Bros. game on Wii U with more features than ever before, shopping for the Nintendo fan on your list will be easy this year.”

Nintendo Teams With Loot Crate for amiibo Subscription

amiibos are little figures that not only look great and feature a ton of Nintendo characters in action poses, but can be used to give bonus content in a range of Wii U titles. To use them in Super Smash Bros. you simply tap them to the Wii U GamePad and the amiibo will appear on the selection screen as a custom version of the character. They aren't playable themselves but they will act as a battle companion, or foe. Since the game supports eight players you can choose to fight against an army of amiibo if you so choose. The amiibos level up and learn through fighting, so you'll want to play with them as much as possible.

Super Smash Bros isn't the only Wii U title that will use the little figures- Mario Kart 8 and Hyrule Warriors will give you bonus content for utilizing them as well.

The amiibo will cost $12.99 apiece. Here are the 12 amiibos that will be available in the first wave-

- Mario
- Peach
- Yoshi
- Donkey Kong
- Link
- Fox
- Samus
- Wii Fit Trainer
, Villager
- Pikachu
- Kirby
- Marth

In December, the following six will hit-

- Zelda
- Luigi
- Diddy Kong
- Little Mac
- Pit
- Captain Falcon

Additional figures will be released in 2015. Who do you want to see next?
