Activision announced this week that the launch week of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare has been the biggest entertainment launch of the year, beating out all movies, music and other media that launched in 2014.
An Advanced Warfare Multiplayer Exploit Patch Is Coming To Next-Gen Consoles
The claim is based on Advanced Warfare's first week of sales, both digital and retail, compared with the gross sales of this year's heavy hitters of media within each of their respective opening weeks. According to Activision, Advanced Warfare has become the console record holder for highest-selling digital launch, based on both PSN and Xbox Live data.
With all of this success for Advanced Warfare, the entire Call of Duty franchise has grossed more than $10 billion in sales since its original debut in 2003. With a recent Guinness Book of World Records announcement that Call of Duty was named the "best ever video game series" and Twitch's confirmation that Advanced Warfare had the best launch week of 2014 in terms of stream numbers, the series is looking pretty solid thanks to Sledgehammer's most recent installment.

"We poured our hearts into making Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare an epic ride, and we are pleased with the performance," Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg said in a release. "Sales and engagement are up through the first week compared to last year. Season Pass sales are up, as well. The game has been very positively reviewed and the response from fans has been tremendous. We believe Advanced Warfare will be the most successful game of the year and we thank our fans for making it the biggest entertainment launch of the year."
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is now available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.
