Evolve Details: Players Will Receive All DLC Maps For Free, Says Turtle Rock Director

All DLC Maps In Evolve Will Be Available For Free

All players will be able to access new maps that Turtle Rock Studios puts into Evolve after launch for no charge, according to Creative Director Phil Robb.

Meet Caira, Evolve's Third And Final Medic

In an interview with IGN, Robb stated that the developer's philosophy going into the matter of DLC is that they never want a player to be blocked from joining a game because they haven't bought a certain DLC pack. To that end, DLC maps will be available for free to all players. Players will also be able to play against others who are using DLC characters, even if they themselves don't own that character. So if a player just owns the base game, he can still play against someone who is playing as a DLC Monster. He just can't select that Monster for himself until he buys it.

With this system set up, players will be free to join any multiplayer game, no matter how many add-ons they have or have not purchased.

Get The Hard Numbers From Evolve's 'Big Alpha'

Evolve finished its "Big Alpha" earlier this month, with players across all three of its platforms logging more than 1 million games total. The developer has spent the rest of this month slowly revealing the final four members of its cast of Hunters that will ship in the base game. A total of 12 Hunters – three for each of the four classes – will be present, with 11 having been announced so far. All that's missing is the official reveal of the final Assault class member.

Evolve will hit PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC systems on February 10.
