Resident Evil 6 New Screens, 7 Million Sell Forecast, 3DS Version Rumors

Resident Evil 6 screenshots and details were revealed along with rumors for a 3DS version.

Publisher Capcom has announced the release of Resident Evil 6 on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on October 2, 2012. The official logo and box art has also been released for the game.

"Blending action and survival horror, this latest installment in the multi-million selling franchise is the most ambitious, immersive and feature rich title of the series to date and promises to be the dramatic horror experience of the year," according to the press release.

Capcom's latest project will be a new addition to the Resident Evil franchise and the company is betting that its latest title will sell 7 million copies globally.  To achieve this, Capcom plans to reel the RE franchise back to its roots to survival horror seen in it earlier titles, rather than action-based gameplay.

The game has been set after ten years since the Raccoon City incident. The President of the United States has decided to reveal the truth knowing that it will curb the current resurgence in bioterrorist activity.

As given in the official Resident 6 website, the game is the first for the franchise where Leon and Chris come together to face unprecedented threat. They are joined by new characters with their own unique perspectives and involvement. Players will experience dramatic horror enacted on a global scale.

Resident 6 screenshots and details have also been released by Capcom which includes C-Virus, the ultimate "bio-weapon." Players can move and shoot, run into cover, dive onto the ground and fire while on their backs.  Zombies will also be able to dash jump and climb.

There have been rumors that a new Resident Evil game is being developed for the 3DS which will come out later this year. The game may be titled as Resident Evil: Degeneration-Damnation-Downfall 3D as reported in Digital Spy.

"The game, known as Resident Evil: Downfall, will apparently take place between the events of Resident Evil 5  and the upcoming Resident Evil 6, and we'll see Claire Redfield returning in her first starring role since Resident Evil: Code Veronica; as the name of the game suggests, Claire will witness the "downfall" of humanity in this game," writes 3DSBuzz.

Resident Evil 6 and its new 3DS version could overcome under-par performances from Capcom's past Resident Evil game and Street Fighter X Tekken.  Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City received poor reviews due to depth and polish.  The game has sold 2 million copies worldwide, despite the poor reception.  It's new Street Fighter X Tekken also fell short of meeting its 2 million goal as it sold 1.6 million copies so far.

Resident Evil 6's goal of 7 million sold copies does not factor in the PC version, which has been announced but with no confirmed launch date.  To see the new RE 6 logo and screenshots, click "START" to begin.
