Minecraft Breaks XBox Live Record

Minecraft's XBox Live edition has broken one day sales records. In a tweet sent out just a few days ago, Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson said, "Saw the official sales numbers for the first 24 hours of Minecraft Xbox 360, and it's very, very good. Profitable in an hour."

Released on XBox Live earlier this month, its seen the total amount of users climb to over 400,000 for Xbox, and continues to grow. According to its Minecraft's own website, since its initial release on PC in November over a year ago, there are close to 28 million registered users, almost 6 million of which who have purchased the game. An open ended sandbox (literally) style game available for less than $30, it's not hard to see why so many people have latched onto the Minecraft phenomenon.

Players can join a multitude of different servers dedicated to various game mods, where they can work together as a team to build something amazing, or fiendishly destroy structures.

It's so successful that the game even has its own convention, Minecon, held in past years in Las Vegas and Washington State, as well as a slew of merchandise including shirts, scarves, magnets, sticky pads, and recently, even Legos. The team behind Minecraft, Mojang, is even open to the idea of a movie or television show. But as to what comes next for Notch and Minecraft remains to be seen...
